Appointments and consultations

Is my booking confirmed when I send a request?

No. Reception reviews the request and confirms the day, time and any preparation. Do not travel for a procedure based only on an unconfirmed message.

Can I request a procedure without a consultation?

Some patients first need a review of symptoms, reports, medicines and other conditions. The clinician decides whether an endoscopy is appropriate and what preparation or sedation is needed.

What should I bring?

Previous blood tests, imaging, endoscopy and biopsy reports, hospital summaries, a medicine and allergy list, and your main questions. Original images may help when reviewing scans.

Preparing for endoscopy

Does every stomach problem need a gastroscopy?

No. The decision depends on the clinical assessment and the question that the test would answer. Warning signs and individual risk may make investigation more urgent.

How long should I fast or prepare my bowel?

Use the written instructions for your own procedure. Timing depends on the procedure, medicines and health conditions. Do not substitute a generic schedule from the internet.

Should I stop blood thinners or diabetes medicines?

Do not stop or change them yourself. The team needs to balance the procedure’s risks with the reason you take each medicine and provide an individual plan.

Will I need a companion and can I drive afterwards?

Sedation or anaesthesia may require an accompanying adult and restrictions on driving and other activities. Confirm the arrangements before the procedure and follow the discharge advice.

When will biopsy results be ready?

Timing varies with the sample and laboratory. Ask how you will receive the result and who will explain it; the visual endoscopy report is not the same as the final tissue diagnosis.

Liver care, privacy and emergencies

Do normal liver enzymes mean that my liver is normal?

Not always. The clinician interprets liver tests together with your history, imaging and other assessment. Monitoring should not be stopped just because one result improves.

Should I send medical records in my first WhatsApp message?

Keep the first message brief. Do not send identity documents, payment information or sensitive clinical images. Ask reception how to share relevant reports when needed.

Can I wait for an online reply if symptoms are severe?

No. Vomiting blood, severe bleeding, severe persistent pain, jaundice with fever, inability to swallow saliva, breathlessness, fainting or confusion requires urgent assessment at the nearest emergency department.
